Biography

Geoff originally entered University to study Workplace Health and Safety (on his father’s advice), which seemed odd to him given his 18 year old approach to life at the time.

After starting though he quickly abandoned the safety subjects and ended up following the psychology stream, completing a Bachelor of Behavioural Science in 1993, and then his post graduate degree the following year. Over the next 20+ years Geoff worked in various Government departments as well as private industry, including a number of years operating as a sole trader.

For the last 10 years he has been with the Qld Police Service, and for the last 18 months has been the acting manager for the Psychological Services unit. In this role Geoff manages nearly 30 psychologists and social workers geographically spread around the state, and is managing a program designed to improve employee wellbeing and reduce the risk of psychological harm and psychological injury for the Queensland Police Service.

Geoff is going to talk about the Our People Matter Strategy, which was launched this year, and is the first time the QPS has had a formal strategy recognising and taking into consideration the people within the organisation.
